OWLS (Older Wiser Livelier Souls) - Using goats for brush management

Join us for a brand new program! This one is geared for adults. We'll have different conservation topic or guest speaker joining us in the Foster Center at Diamond Lake on the third Thursday of each month. Feel free to bring a lunch to enjoy on the viewing deck or in the Foster Center after the program. 

In May Adam Ledvina of Iowa Kiko Goats and Blue Collar Goatscaping will talk about using goats to combat brushy invasive species such as honeysuckle, autumn olive, and multiflora rose in natural areas. This talk is sure to be interesting whether you are a land manager or not!

Kayaking at Diamond Lake

These events will be held regularly throughout the summer and fall, and are a great time to do something as a family, meet up with an old friend, or make new friends!

Meet at the north side of Arbor Lake. Beginners welcome! All sessions start with a quick lesson. Kayaks and life jackets are provided. Sessions will be approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and begin at 1 pm, 2:30 pm, and 4 pm .

Summer Nature Explorers - Tiny lake critters

We'll meet up twice a month to talk about a seasonal nature topic, and hike, play a game, or do a craft. Lessons are designed for Pre-K through 5th grade, but learners of all ages (from baby siblings to grandparents!) are welcome. We'll meet at the main shelter throughout the summer. 

For our first summer outing we'll do some dip netting in the edge of the lake to see what critters are living there. While we might also find frogs and minnows, the most common critters in our lake are the tiny ones we barely notice: including dragonfly larvae, aquatic worms, water beetles, snails and more. We won't get in the lake - but we'll explore the lakeshore with nets and buckets so dress appropriately and bring a sense of adventure! 

We will have long handled nets and tubs of water to make it easier to get a close look from dry land as well!
