NEWS RELEASE – Absentee Voting by mail or in-person for Primary Election

Melissa Eilander, Poweshiek County Auditor & Commissioner of Elections states the safety of voters is top priority and would encourage Poweshiek County voters to vote absentee to help reduce the risk of community spread of COVID-19. Poweshiek County residents may request an absentee ballot by completing the Absentee Ballot Request Form. The Absentee Request Form may be download from the Secretary of State’s website at https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/pdf/absenteeballotapp.pdf or you may call the Auditor’s Office and a request from can be mailed to you. You may also submit on a piece of paper no smaller than 3×5 inches the following information: Name of voter, voter’s address, address to which the ballot should be sent if different from voter’s address, date and/or type of election (Primary), political party, and voter’s signature & date. Send completed forms to Poweshiek County Auditor, PO Box 57, Montezuma, IA 50171. The last day Auditor’s Office can mail out a requested ballot is May 22, 2020.

The first day to vote in-person at the Poweshiek County Auditor’s Office is Monday May 4, 2020.

The polls will still be open on June 2, 2020 for voters who prefer to cast ballots in person. In an effort to comply with social distancing and help ensure safety of election workers and voters, your polling location may change for the Primary Election.
