Emergency Management Commission

The Poweshiek County Emergency Management Commission is the governing body of the Emergency Management Agency.

Chapter 29C of the Code of Iowa establishes an Emergency Management Commission in every county in Iowa. The Emergency Management Agency is the operational office of the Emergency Management Commission. The Commission and Agency are created separate from county government. Membership on the Emergency Management Commission is designated in the Code: the county sheriff, a representative of the Board of Supervisors, and the mayor (or designee) from each municipality in the county. Poweshiek County has 10 members on the EMA Commission. The municipalities represented on the Emergency Management Commission are: Brooklyn, Deep River, Grinnell, Guernsey, Hartwick, Malcom, Montezuma, and Searsboro.
